A tale of two workouts Pilates or Yoga
If you plan to sculpt your body and appear beautiful, you must focus on exercise and workouts. Yoga is commonly used to achieve peace of mind, body and rejuvenate the soul. The approach is more spiritual and it affects the body as a whole. But Pilates is a complete body exercise and help you reduce weight and achieve great body in a short time.
Body maintenance through “Yoga” includes a series of stretching exercises through a spiritual and philosophical journey. It is an art of uniting body, mind and spirit through exercise, meditation and inhalation. Yoga is just not exercise it is a lifestyle a culture to adopt and the path to follow. But Pilates is purely physical in approach. The aim of Pilates is work on body basics like, muscle control, coordination, strength, flexibility and toning the body. This concept was created by Joseph Pilates in the year 1920, and is based on six fundamental principles:
1. Centering or Uniting (The process of strengthening The Powerhouse – abdominal muscles, pelvic area, buttocks and lower back muscle)
2. Focus or Concentration (applying complete attention to each exercises)
3. Authority or Control (using total muscle control)
4. Precision (every movement has a reason)
5. Breathing (exercises are coordinated with the breath)
6. Flow (movements are smooth and graceful)
Yoga will help you achieve inner happiness but Pilates will sculpt your body. In practicing Pilates you need a complete set of specialized equipments including pulleys, springs and weights. Practicing Pilates will enhance your respiratory and circulatory function. You will loose weight easily due to weight training and muscle exercise. Regular practicing will improve your spine health and control the back pain.
As said earlier that Yoga is a holistic approach and a spiritual journey. It is process of moving energy throughout your body. If the energy flows freely inside the body you will be healthier and energetic person. The physical postures help in relaxing the mind by connecting to nature. It helps in achieving balance between nature and the composer. But Pilates have a more practical approach. It is strictly physical. After yoga class you will feel relaxed from inside but after a Pilate’s session you will not experience something like that. The techniques are often used as dancing steps and it helps in over all fluid movement in the body.
In short the aim of Pilates is to bring overall physical change rather than on spiritual development through postures and breathing.
